Vertigo!

Yup, I have vertigo! I can't sit up or walk without the entire room spinning! I've been like this since Friday. Last night I decided to take my life into my hands and drive myself to the emergency room. My neighbor was nice enough to take the kids tick or treating for me. Of course the other parental unit is on a temp duty assignment so I am running the show solo.

They set me up with a consult to make an appt. with ENT on Monday so hopefully they can see me right away. I've been plagued with sinus issues for as long as I can remember and have recently been having problems with my left ear. We're thinking it's all related in some way.

In the meantime a girlfriend of mine suggested an exercise that her ENT had her do. It involved turning my head from side to side. It didn't do much so I shook my head to see what would happen. It wasn't pretty. I quietly crawled back in my fetal position to wait for the room to stop spinning.

I can't really knit. It's difficult for me to knit laying down. Thank goodness for my laptop or I'd have hardly any entertainment...well except for trying to keep the boys occupied when I can't get up. I have a feeling it's going to be a long hour until bedtime!

Greetings and Salutations!
Today, as promised, I present to you my little guy in his finished hat...

He really likes it and I am just happy to have another FO that came out as intended :o)

A friend of mine (who lives far away) had a baby last month. I decided a knitted gift would make a perfect gift and made a version of the umbilical hat from Stitch 'n Bitch...

It only took about a day and a half and I was able to use up a lot of the yarn that was left over from the boys hats. Boy do I love that Rowan All Season's cotton!

I'm still working on DHs hat. I don't think I like the Brown Sheep superwash. When I first sat down to work on it out came this, this...lump from the center of the ball. It was matted and SO not salvedgeable (is that a word, and if so did I spell it right? LOL)! So I had to frog, CUT the yarn (!) and start again...and it still doesn't look right. Well to me anyway. I'm thinking of scrapping the yarn altogether and getting something I like to work with. One of the balls I can exchange for something else but the one I used is a lost cause. Anyone have any ideas on what to do with 97% of a ball of Brown Sheep superwash? Anyone want it??

I'm planning on making a felted bag. Actually it might be a partially felted bag(can one partially felt something?). I got some Rio de la Plata which I know will felt but I also wanted to use some beautiful stuff from the Himalayan Yarn Co. and it is only 60% wool. Not sure if that will work so I will be busy felting swatches later. If the blend won't felt on it's own (I was going to do some kind of striping), I will just buy another hank and knit with both yarns throughout. I should have some progress to show next time!

Still waiting to get my car back. All I can say is thank goodness for our $250 deductible because not only is there significant damage but I need new tires as well..*sigh*..I'll just be glad to get it back!

Take care everyone!!

Accident!

That's right! Ugh!
I was on my way home from my weekly ritual of knitting and hot chocolate at Folk Art When I fishtailed coming off of the beltway! Thank goodness I was going slow because of the rain and traffic. To make a long story short I wound up with my rear against the median and my nose out in traffic. Everyone was able to stop and just when I thought I was in the clear...*pow*!! Someone hit a lady who in turn hit me. No cosmetic damage (I was hit in the tire) but the axle is all bent up and I almost didn't make it home. Thank goodness everyone is ok and that the insurance co. gave me a rental ;o)

I finally got my books! And as I was sure of the other day they have all kinds of cool things I want to make. I'm thinking of doing 'Misty Garden' from scarf style as a gift for someone in my mom's group. I really want to make 'Lady Eleanor' but I got confused just looking at that pattern! LOL! I also love the Children's Cotton Hats from Last~Minute Knitted Gifts...so cute! However, I think my favorite is the Chevron Scarf, it's just beautiful! I think I just might treat myself with that one.

'That's all well and good', you say, 'but have you had any knitting progress?' Why yes I have.....

"what is that?' you ask? That, my friends, is a self~fringing shawl. The pattern is from Knit One Crochet Two. I'm using that Incredible ribbon from LB. It's ok...not much stitch definition (though I didn't expect any) and it twists up something awful! It is very vibrant and pretty though. I'm a little worried about the self~fringing part. The thought of unravelling my knitting makes me a tad nervous. But hey, you have to trust your pattern...right?

I will have a pic of little man in his finished hat next time, and hope to have some progress to show on DHs hat. I found some lovely...er, ah...manly green Brown Sheep superwash. No purple at all!

Errands...Blah!

That's what I did today. Errands! After getting ds#1 off to school me and the little guy went to the base exchange. I exchanged a pair of jeans for a really nice coat. The jeans were the lowrise type and is it just me or do they keep getting lower and lower? Since it probably isn't a good idea to run around with 70% of my butt showing I figured returning them was the thing to do. Besides, now I can knit a hat and scarf to go with my new coat! After that it was on to the grocery store which is always big fun, especially with your three year old. Our final stop of the day was the library, where I got a few cool books...Knit and Crochet with Beads by Lily Chin, Knit One Felt Two by Kathleen Taylor, and How to Knit by Debbie Bliss. Too bad I didn't have a chance to look at them today~between cooking and cleaning and kids I blinked at 4 and all of a sudden it was 8pm! That's ok, tomorrow will be a chill day. That is, after we take care of little man's costume. Checked it out today and him Power Ranger didn't have the headpiece~thingy. *sigh* Boy do I hope they have another red Power Ranger at Party City!

Been waiting on the UPS guy, I ordered Last Minute Knitted Gifts and Scarf Style. I'm trying to hold out on any more yarn purchases until I get these because I'm sure I will want to make everything in them! I'm almost done with little man's hat...just have to do the decreases. yay! After that I need to find some olive yarn for DH's hat. The next hat will be paired up with my self~fringing shawl. The boys' sweaters will be next on the list. Wow, I think I might need a few more hours in the day!

Incredible

Well, that's what this ribbon yarn is supposed to be anyhow. I bought some of Lion Brand's incredible for a shawl. They didn't have the autumn leaves so I settled on copper penny...

I think it will work out fine.

I finally finished the cotton ribbon scarf/belt. I was pleased at how it turned out and she was very happy with it.

My last update is on ds #1s hat. It's done..yay! I was determined to get it finished last night and that's exactly what I did. I took it to the 'knit at nite' at Folk Art and did all but sew it up(I did that part right before bed). I figured FOs are better displayed on the intended recipient so...

Taa Daa!!! He is pleased as punch! Now, off to start a green one for ds #2.

The Nerve!

The nerve of football...that's right, football! I had to wait until midnight for 'Desperate Housewives' to come on. So here I am, up past my bedtime *sigh*

I figure this is the perfect time for me to introduce Phoebe. We got her back in May from here and her name was Illinois. The people at the shelter said they get so many cats they start running out of names~how sad is that? She spent all of her life up until a week before I got her on the street. They think she was about a year old. She was quite skittish at first but now she is the princess of the house~you know the type, has to sleep on the bed and refuses to wear her collar? Who is the queen you ask? Well me, of course!

Anywhoo, here she is. She had to come and investigate...

then took a second to pose...

and then decided she'd had enough...

Ain't she cute?

On the knittin' front...
Not much action. Almost done with the birthday scarf. I'll post a pic when I am done. I've got so much I want to do and not enough hours in the day. I am determined to teach myself how to knit a sock before this year is out!

Picture pages, picture pages...

~*~open up your picture pages~*~

Does anyone else remember this? Bill Cosby? Am I showing my age??

I thought about editing my last entry because I am now happy, but since I was unhappy then I left it alone. I got photobucket to work (yay) and have made some changes 'round here. First off, my wool~ease stash...

Not bad for $27 huh? Next we have my blanket...

Well actually not my blanket but a blanket for a relative's baby. And last but not least ds #1's hat...

When I'm done with that one I have ds #2's hat (in green)to knit. They have expressed a desire for scarves as well. I look at this as a good thing...they think the stuff that mommy makes is 'cool'!

I also have this...

and it needs to be transformed into some sort of wearable object by Monday. Well If you recall that poor little ball of ribbon yarn almost became a scarf like...15 times or so. I've made little progress~6 rows or so~and I need to light a fire under my behind! I still have to make her card...

Not happy!

I was all set to post some pics. However Photobucket doesn't take new accounts after 2pm and before 10pm (MST). Since that's after midnight for me I don't see it happening. Hello disappears once you upload a pic and then you can't sign back in. Why do I seem to be the only one to ever have these issues???

Anyway, yesterday I decided to return some Karabella I had~4 balls to be exact. I used that money to purchase 12 balls of wool~ease. I have blankets I need to make. I like the feel of wool when I knit but the kids need machine washable items so I figured it will work. If it pills or whatever it was only $2/ball so no worries!

So as of tonight I have a blanket, a hat, and a scarf started. Actually I've been starting that darn scarf all day. It's a friend's birthday on Sunday, but everyone wanted to get together tomorrow! Oh the pressure! Well I wound up frogging the stupid thing about 20 times before I got a phone call saying the birthday 'bash' has been moved to Monday...*whew*

I got the yarn I ordered today (thanks cucumberpatch UK!)to make Jake and Max from 'Rowan Junior'. I need to get a couple more balls for contrast striping on Max but that's no biggie, I probably won't get started on those for another week or two. Oh, almost forgot...funny thing happened on Wednesday. I bought some DPNs at Folk Art Studio especially for the bucket hat and left them right on the counter! They are holding them for me (of course) but I probably won't get back up there until next Wednesday.

Maybe I'll mess with this blog a little tonight. I'm taking a HTML class so maybe I'll experiment with some buttons...'til next time!

Beautiful Morning!

Hello everyone!
I've decided to add this blog to my WIP list. It's been a little neglected because I've been a little frustrated, but no longer! I will learn as I go along!

This is my first week as a SAHM. My 5yo is in school but my 3yo is with me (asking if it's time to get his brother from the bus ALL day!). We try to do something fun everyday but then big bro gets jealous. Luckily for me trips to Target and the grocery store still constitute a good time...long as a trip to the park is thrown in for good measure :o)

On to the knitting....
Right now I'm making hats for the boys from the Rowan Junior book. I'm loving working with the All Season's Cotton. Next on my list is this. I've got some Kureyon waiting in the wings for that one. While I was at it I got a couple of skeins for a hat for DH but I guess there are trace amounts(or whatever)of purple in it and apparently a grown man can't wear purple, however small the amount!

Fine by me. It will make a perfect felted bag...;o)

Went here last night for a knit nite and had an awesome time. I really like that place. I got some work done on my hat and enjoyed some really good conversation with my fellow knitters. The bubble tea wasn't bad either!

Socks?

I set out this weekend determined to learn to knit socks. Friday I went to Springwater Fiber Shop and bought double pointed needles and sock yarn. However here it is Sunday night and I have yet to start a sock! I did just finish a hat though...my very first hat! I used big Kureyon and it came out quite nicely. I'll take a pic sometime tomorrow...

Today I went to Knit Happens and got the pattern book 'Rowan Junior'. I saw a few sweaters I'd like to make for the boys which is a shocker because the pickings are usually slim for cute boy patterns. I need more yarn.

I also really liked Earnshaw from Simply Noro. Not that I'll be making it anytime soon~it calls for 10 skeins at about $22 a skein!! Maybe I'll ask for some for Christmas or something?
